Cody Kirkpatrick never planned on starting a junk removal company. He was looking for a way to earn extra money to support his growing family, and he already had a pickup truck and a small utility trailer sitting at home.
After researching ways to make money with the equipment he had, Cody decided to try dumpster rentals. But with a trailer that held about seven yards, the idea never took off.
While looking for other opportunities, he came across junk removal. He started taking jobs after his regular workday and on weekends, gradually building something he hadn’t expected: C&L Junk Removal.
As more jobs came in, Cody realized junk removal could become more than a side business. He was earning enough to consider leaving his regular job, but making that decision meant taking a risk.
His second child was about to be born, and he wanted to earn a living while spending more time with his wife and children. In December 2020, he decided to go all in.
The business name reflects what motivated him from the beginning. The “C” and “L” stand for his children, Catalina and Lucas, a reminder of why he started in the first place.

Over time, he learned that no two properties present the same challenges. A garage filled with old furniture is different from an inherited home packed with belongings or a backyard structure that needs to come down.
Those jobs taught him to pay attention to access, the amount of material being removed, and the physical work involved before deciding how to tackle a project.
Some of the work Cody finds most rewarding involves helping families who don’t know where to start with a house full of belongings. Clearing out an inherited home can be overwhelming, especially when there are years of furniture and clutter to sort through.
Cody also enjoys the hands-on side of junk removal and light demolition. His work has included removing sheds, playgrounds, above-ground pools, barns, and detached garages. He likes finding practical ways to handle each job, whether it’s clearing unwanted furniture or tackling a larger demolition project.
For Cody, doing the job well starts with being honest about what needs to happen and what it will cost.
He knows that not everyone can afford to clear an entire property at once. When possible, he works with the person’s budget and discusses whether splitting a larger cleanout into several visits makes sense.
He also believes usable items deserve another look before being thrown away. Donation centers, recycling facilities, and secondhand outlets are part of how the business handles suitable materials whenever practical.
